Grammy Awards 2017The 59th Annual Grammy Awards (Grammy Awards 2017) ceremony was held on February 12, 2017. The CBS network broadcast the show live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The ceremony recognized the best recordings, compositions and artists of the eligibility year, which runs from October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2016. James Corden hosted the ceremony for the first time. The “pre-telecast” ceremony (officially named The Premiere Ceremony) was held on the same day prior to the main event and was hosted by comedienne Margaret Cho.

The Motorhead bass and vocal icon Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister died Dec. 28, four days after his 70th birthday. The rocker endured a short battle with an aggressive form of cancer.

Scott Weiland

Former Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver vocalist Scott Weiland died Dec. 3 aboard his tour bus in Minnesota before a show with his solo band The Wildabouts. It was later determined that Weiland died of an overdose of cocaine, ecstasy and alcohol.

The ceremony recognizes the best recordings, compositions and artists of the eligibility year, which was from October 1, 2014, to September 30, 2015. The “pre-telecast” ceremony, officially known as the Premiere Ceremony, in which the majority of awards were presented, was held at the nearby Microsoft Theater. It was the sixteenth Grammy ceremony to be held at the Staples Center, tying the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles for hosting the most Grammy ceremonies. It also marks the latest date for a Grammy ceremony since 2003, which were held on February 23.
