Latest NewsMEGADETH wins ‘Best Metal Performance‘ GRAMMY Award
///  Date : 13th February, 2017  ///

Megadeth was honored with a Grammy in the ‘Best Metal Performance‘ category in the pre-telecast ceremony at the 59th annual Grammy Awards, which was held yesterday (Sunday, February 12) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Megadeth was nominated for “Dystopia“, the title track of its 2016 album.

As Megadeth approached the stage to accept the award, the house band inexplicably played the song “Master Of Puppets” from Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine’s former band Metallica.

In his acceptance speech, Mustaine said : “Fantastic! Only took twelve tries to get this. Last time we were here, we were talking to Kenny G, and he asked me how many times we were here, and he goes, ‘Well, eleven isn’t that bad.’ And I said, ‘How many times did it take you?’ And he said, Twenty-one.’ And I was, like, ‘Oh, my god. If it takes twenty-one times… I don’t know if I’ll live that long.'”

Mustaine continued : “I wanna thank Jesus Christ, I wanna thank my wife, my children, all the band’s wives and kids, I wanna thank our management, our label, our agent, our attorney, our crew, all of you, especially the metal community. I think it’s a little weird that we ended up being category 69, but somebody’s got a sense of humor.”

The nominees in the ‘Best Metal Performance‘ category were as follows :

BARONESS – “Shock Me”
GOJIRA – “Slivera”
KORN – “Rotting in Vain”
MEGADETH – “Dystopia”
PERIPHERY – “The Price Is Wrong”

Latest NewsMETALLICA’s Kirk Hammett on more Big 4 shows : “I personally see it happening again”
///  Date : 12th February, 2017  ///

The ‘Big 4‘ concerts featuring the joint package of thrash’s best – Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax, was one of the downright coolest moments in metal history as they played select concerts around the world. There’s been talk among both fans and the musicians who took part in the event of future Big 4 shows and Metallica axeman Kirk Hammett has now thrown his hat into the ring of optimism.

As a guest on Scott Ian‘s SiriusXM show Never Meet Your Heroes, Hammett first explained how this momentous concert idea even took shape. “That term Big 4 was created by the press and we kept on seeing it and seeing it: Big 4, Big 4,” he began. “And then, one day, it was something to the extent of, ‘Let’s get all the original metal bands together to do a tour like we used to do back in the day’; we’d all tour with each other.”

The plans got shaved down to just the Big 4 and Hammett said, “It was just, like, ‘Yeah, we absolutely should tour together and celebrate our long, storied careers.’”

Latest NewsGUNS N’ ROSES joined by Angus Young for two AC/DC covers in Australia
///  Date : 11th February, 2017  ///

Guns N’ Roses and AC/DC represent two of the biggest rock bands of all time and combined they look to be even more unstoppable. For the second time, Angus Young hopped onstage with GN’R to bust out a couple AC/DC classics, this time in his home country of Australia.

As Guns continue their overwhelmingly successful “Not in This Lifetime…” tour, the band stopped in Australia for a series of performances, which have often hovered around three hours long. The band mixed in a bunch of cover songs per usual, playing classics from Pink Floyd, The Who and, most importantly here, AC/DC at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Feb. 10. Young took the stage after “Sweet Child o’ Mine” and together, they ran through “Whole Lotta Rosie” (video below) and “Riff Raff” (video below).

Latest NewsAS I LAY DYING’s Tim Lambesis has been Free for Two Months, getting Married in April
///  Date : 10th February, 2017  ///

Yesterday, we learned the shocking news that As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis had been released from prison. Lambesis served only two and a half years on a six-year sentence after he was arrested and eventually convicted of solicitation of murder for attempting to hire a hitman to murder his now ex-wife.

Yesterday, guitarist George Lynch revealed that Lambesis had been out for a while. Lynch’s daughter was engaged to Lambesis’ former bandmate, guitarist Nick Hipa, which is how Lynch has the info. Lynch said “He’s out, he’s got a mega record deal, he’s got a book deal, everything’s lined up for him. I mean, he’s gonna skate through life. Everybody else is suffering. His wife is living in fear, his children are living in fear. His band doesn’t have a pot to piss in.” This, of course, speaks to the fact that the former members of As I Lay Dying quit the band due to Lambesis’ actions and now are struggling to get their new band, Wovenwar, off the ground, while Lambesis is using the publicity of his crime to secure a better career for himself.

AltPress reached out the California Department Of Corrections And Rehabilitation and a representative confirmed Lambesis was “discharged Dec. 17, 2016. He was discharged to the Division of Adult Parole Operations.” Lambesis is wasting no time moving ahead with his life. In the comments of yesterday’s Lambesis post, Lambesis had a public wedding registry set up, with the scheduled date of marriage being April 29, 2017 in Carlsband, CA.

///  Date : 08th February, 2017  ///

When Metallica announced they’d be performing at this year’s Grammy Awards ceremony, this coming Sunday, February 12, 2017, they promised something big. Looks like the word got out on what that performance might be.

Earlier today, Lady Gaga tweeted a video of commercial for the ceremony this Sunday announcing that she would be joining the legendary Bay Area thrashers for what is sure to be a must-see performance.

Gaga is no stranger to heavy metal. She has said on numerous occasions that Iron Maiden changed her life. She loves Black Sabbath (her favorite song is “Black Sabbath”), she lounges around in metal shirts, hangs out with metal gods and randomly crashes metal shows at SXSW from time to time.

Latest NewsOBITUARY’s new song “Turned To Stone” is pretty Sludgy
///  Date : 07th February, 2017  ///

Obituary‘s self-titled new album will be out on March 17 via Relapse Records, and unlike the debut single from the album, “Turned To Stone” is much slower and crushing. At least until about the halfway mark, at which point things take a turn for double bass drum galore and whammy bar-laden solos, which seems to be where the band’s new material excels.

Latest NewsMETALLICA postpone Copenhagen show due to James Hetfield’s health
///  Date : 05th February, 2017  ///

The other shoe has fallen for Metallica. After the band struggled through a performance Friday in Copenhagen in which James Hetfield asked to shut things down early after admitting he didn’t “sound good”, the band has postponed Sunday’s show (Feb. 5) at the venue allowing the ailing Hetfield to recover.

In a post to their Facebook page, the band stated, “We’re very disappointed to have to share with you that unfortunately as Saturday has progressed, James’ health, and specifically his throat, is not improving and he is under strict doctor’s orders to not sing one single note. So sadly we have to report that we will be postponing tomorrow’s show at the Royal Arena until Sept 2, 2017.”

The band will honor tickets for the postponed show when they return in September, but they are also encouraging fans who traveled to Denmark to contact Ticketmaster Denmark to see if there are replacement tickets available for the Feb. 7 or 9 shows the band is still intending on playing at the venue. And for those unable to attend one of the other dates, refunds will be available through March 1.

Latest NewsOzzy Osbourne on BLACK SABBATH’s farewell show : ‘I’ve been tearful’
///  Date : 03rd February, 2017  ///

As Black Sabbath prepare for their farewell show this weekend, at least one member is choked up at the prospect of the band’s final gig. “My emotions are flying all over the place,” Ozzy Osbourne told the BBC during rehearsals at Birmingham’s Genting Arena, where the band will play its final show tomorrow night. “Since I’ve got to this building today, I’ve been happy, I’ve been tearful. Let’s see what happens.”

Black Sabbath kicked off their last tour, called The End, more than a year ago. After circling the globe, it wraps up this week with two shows in the English city in which they got their start in 1968. Saturday’s performance will be their last, and Osbourne hinted that there may be a surprise or two for that final concert. “I’ve got to say something, but I’ve nothing rehearsed,” he said. “I’m no good at speeches.”

Osbourne told the BBC he was feeling sentimental about the end of the band’s touring days, recalling an early gig in Birmingham and thinking, “This’ll be good for a couple of years – drink a few beers and have a jam. But it was the beginning of the most incredible adventure you could think of. I’ve had the best life out of it. One of the proudest things I have in my heart is the fact that Black Sabbath wasn’t a band that was created by some big mogul. It was four guys who said let’s have a dream, and it came true beyond our wildest expectations.”

Latest NewsANTHRAX’s Scott Ian : Political unrest is great for art
///  Date : 01st February, 2017  ///

Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian says current political climate will result in “a lot of great heavy music” over the next 4 years. They are currently gearing up for a long run of tour dates to celebrate 30 years since the release of their classic ‘Among The Living‘ album.

And while some have been quick to criticise the current state of the music industry, Ian believes the scene is “strong and healthy” and will only improve due to the political unrest across the world.

Speaking exclusively to Metal Hammer, Ian says : “I think there’s gonna be a lot of great heavy music being made in the next four years. Political unrest is great for art. The Big Four came out of the Reagan era in the States. The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal came out of the Thatcher era, if I’m not mistaken. So with Trump and the political climate in the world right now, it should definitely be great for heavy music.”

Latest NewsJoey Jordison : SLIPKNOT are my brothers forever
///  Date : 30th January, 2017  ///

Joey Jordison says Slipknot are his “brothers forever” despite parting ways with the band acrimoniously in 2013. The drummer was dismissed by Corey Taylor and co in a “stupid fucking email” with both sides remaining silent on the reasons behind the decision. But in a 2016 interview with Metal Hammer, Jordison revealed he had been diagnosed with a rare disease of the nervous system which left him unable to play drums.

But speaking on the One On One with Mitch Lafon podcast, Jordison says there are no hard feelings. He says : “Without Slipknot, I would not necessarily be where I am today. And all those guys and everyone that I worked with, wrote with, all the producers, all the albums, all the tours, everything that we did – I can never in a million years compact it into an interview right now of the great things that we did together. I would not trade them for the world. Those guys are my brothers forever. I love them very much, and I wish them well.”

Latest NewsFormer BLACK SABBATH keyboardist Geoff Nicholls dies after battle with lung cancer
///  Date : 29th January, 2017  ///

Former Black Sabbath keyboardist Geoff Nicholls died yesterday morning after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 68 years old.

Nicholls’s passing was confirmed by Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi, who wrote about his former bandmate : “I’m so saddened to hear the loss of one of my dearest and closest friends Geoff Nicholls. He’s been suffering for a while now with lung cancer and he lost his battle this morning. Geoff and I have always been very close and he has been a real true friend to me and supported me all the way for nearly 40 years. I will miss him dearly and he will live in my heart until we meet again. Rest in peace, my dear friend.”

Added Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler : “Very sad to hear of old friend and Black Sabbath keyboard player Geoff Nicholls passing. RIP Geoff.”

Said Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne : “Geoff Nicholls was a great friend of mine for a long time. He will be greatly missed. I’m very saddened at the news.”

Nicholls, who played keyboards on all of Black Sabbath’s albums between 1980 and 1995 and toured with them, was reportedly in remission from cancer at the time of his death but succumbed to the side effects of chemotherapy.

Latest NewsGeezer Butler says BLACK SABBATH calling it quits is ‘A Natural End To The Band’
///  Date : 28th January, 2017  ///

Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne and bassist Geezer Butler spoke to Express & Star about the band’s decision to call it quits after completing “The End” tour early next month.

“To come back and be friends with my buddies who I started up with all those years ago,” Ozzy said, “it’s a closure for me to have a chapter of my life which I can say, ‘Well, we came, we saw, we had a good time, and now it’s over.’ And so it’s like any relationship. I’m glad we ended up having more or less whatever has gone on between us over the years.”

Butler added that the band couldn’t carry on for much longer. “So the natural thing to do is to all agree on one last tour,” he said. “And we all agreed that there won’t be any more Sabbath after this. It’s like a natural progression kind of thing; a natural end to the band.”

Black Sabbath is bringing its storied career to a close in its native England, with seven shows booked there in January and February. The last two, on February 2 and February 4, will take place in Sabbath’s hometown of Birmingham and will likely be their final shows.

Latest NewsMASTODON offers first tease of New Music, unveils Album Art
///  Date : 26th January, 2017  ///

Following a series of cryptic and wildly tongue-in-cheek videos on their Facebook page, Mastodon have unveiled a cheeky 45-second teaser of new material from their forthcoming seventh album. Available to listen to in the form of a 360º video, the image you’re presented with could be the new album artwork. It’s typically Mastodon with a fiery orange and red palette surrounding a skull king in smoke.

Musically it’s very Mastodon, with the chunky riffs and rugged stomp pushing forever onwards, while Brann Dailor‘s frantic drum style adds those signature experimental flourishes. There are no vocals to hear as yet, but we know the album’s concept is based around the band’s relationship and experiences with cancer. It’s also rumoured to be a much proggier record.

There’s also no word on an album title, but if the URL is anything to go by then it could be called Eos or EOS is an acronym for something else.

Latest NewsMETALLICA frontman says it was ‘A Mistake’ to make fans wait 8 years for ‘Hardwired… To Self-Destruct’
///  Date : 25th January, 2017  ///

Metallica frontman James Hetfield has admitted that making fans wait eight years for the band’s latest album was “a mistake”. Last year’s ‘Hardwired… To Self-Destruct’ marked Metallica’s first release since their 2011 collaboration with Lou Reed, ‘Lulu‘, and their first album of new, original material since 2008’s ‘Death Magnetic‘. In the meantime, Metallica toured the world relentlessly, even logging a 2013 Antarctica stop that made them the first band to play all seven continents. They also dropped the artsy concert film “Through The Never“, which reportedly cost $32 million and made less than $4 million at the box office.

Speaking to The Straits Times, Hetfield said that perhaps waiting so long to make the new album “was a mistake” and reassured fans that “it won’t be” another eight years before a follow-up effort sees the light of day. The Metallica frontman also offered his views on remaining relevant — and even being invited to play this year’s Grammy Awards — in an industrial climate that is thriving on the past.

“Music comes in trends and what not, but we haven’t gone anywhere”, he said. “If we’re still popular enough to play the Grammys, that’s cool”. Hetfield added that he didn’t put much thought into how Metallica managed to stay on top when so many of their peers have fallen by the wayside or lost their mojo.

“I don’t want to figure it out”, he said. “What we have to offer is honesty and we love what we do. We’re writing songs we want to hear and that’s important. We’re not trying to recreate something that worked before or try a different genre or do some other crazy thing that’s not us.”

Latest NewsGHOST’s new Album will be dark, likely about The Fall Of Civilization
///  Date : 24th January, 2017  ///

Ghost has made it pretty well known that it’s trying to get a record out this fall, though with its upcoming tour with Iron Maiden. Either way, a Nameless Ghoul knows what the new stuff will sound like, and it’s dark.

In an interview with Loudwire, the Ghoul says the album will be a response to ‘Meliora‘ in the sense that ‘Meliora’ was about the pinnacle of civilization and the possible return of a deity.

“Let’s just say that it’s a continuation of Meliora, but it’s sort of a response. I’ve used the word “pre-apocalyptic” on Meliora. It is sort of the hide of civilization. It’s the symbolism, just look at the cover. It’s sky risers, everything. You don’t even see the ground. It’s all covered and built material. Obviously there has to be an end to that. So there will be a call and response. The next album will be the response to that. So if there was an absence of a God, there might be a return of a deity, which usually comes in horrible forms. So it will be a darker album.”

Pretty apocalyptic! When asked about if the new album is in the works, Ghoul just replies “yeah.” So there’s a new album, and it’s coming… whenever.

Latest NewsMASTODON teases upcoming Album
///  Date : 23rd January, 2017  ///

Atlanta progressive metallers Mastodon have released a short teaser for their upcoming album, which is tentatively due in March. The one-and-a-half-minute clip features an unidentified Mastodon bandmember — whose face and voice are obscured, but who appears to be drummer Brann Dailor — saying in part : “I’m not at liberty to say who I am or what I am doing here. This is a room. I’m pretty sure it’s inside of a city or a town or a village. I’m in a recording studio. We’re recording something. I don’t know. I can’t talk about it. Recording music, different kind of music. World music. Uh, heavy metal, R&B, Celtic music, music to dance to, music to sit down to, music to do yoga, music to, uh, do different kinds of, um, exercises to. Things like that. But I can’t tell you any of the names of the songs or what the songs sound like.”

Mastodon recorded the new disc at the Quarry in Kennesaw, Georgia before moving to Henson Studios in Los Angeles for the mixing stage. Songtitles set to appear on the disc include “Show Yourself“, “Precious Stones” and “Your Own Blood“.

Latest NewsRAMMSTEIN tease newly-announced ‘Paris’ DVD / Blu-Ray with wild Trailer
///  Date : 19th January, 2017  ///

German industrial metallers Rammstein are preparing to release a new concert DVD and Blu-ray, ‘Paris‘. The set was recorded in March 2012 at the then-named Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in Paris (now AccorHotels Arena) during Rammstein’s “Made In Germany” tour, and was helmed by the band’s longtime collaborator, Swedish director Jonas Åkerlund. The first trailer for “Paris” is available below.

Rammstein: Paris (Trailer)

Posted by Rammstein on Wednesday, January 18, 2017

The teaser (via Rammstein’s Facebook) opens up with some light (by contextual standards) pyrotechnics and shots of the band moving in time with the mechanized rhythms, but it gets strange quickly when treadmills and more explosions enter the picture. Rammstein are renowned for their over the top and truly unmatched live performances, often featuring dangerous acts surrounding fire and a close proximity to the face. After a bit of some crude mock sex acts, we’re treated to a shot of frontman Till Lindemann with a flamethrower affixed to, yes, his face. The video goes on to reveal more explosions, chained, leather-clad men crawling around on a platform above the stage and more.

Latest NewsOBITUARY’s “Sentence Day” delivers punishing Groove and high-flying Solos
///  Date : 18th January, 2017  ///

Taking the riffing ethos of Celtic Frost and combining it with their own sense of manic-paced groove and over the top but charming death growls, Obituary have stood among death metal’s elite for nearly 30 years. They’re set to add another notch to their legacy on March 17 when their eponymous 10th studio album will see a release through Relapse. Get a taste of what’s to come with the crushing new track “Sentence Day” below.

Opening with a spotlight guitar lick drenched in the band’s floor-hugging tone, it isn’t long before John Tardy’s demented wail comes in, set to a thrashing groove. “Sentence Day” takes a turn early in the song, surging with energy propelled by a wild solo before finding the chorus. The arrangement here is among the band’s most adventurous, veering off in all directions with barrages of twin melodies and even more theatrical soloing.

Latest NewsEx-ARCH ENEMY vocalist Angela Gossow is planning a new Extreme Metal Band
///  Date : 15th January, 2017  ///

Angela Gossow fronted Arch Enemy from 2000 to 2014, at which point she decided to step down and become the band’s manager. Gossow says her decision to do so was because she felt that too many managers took advantage of the bands they were managing, and she wanted her artists to make more money.

All told, the last album Gossow fronted was 2011’s ‘Khaos Legions‘, though we might be hearing more from her in a different project come 2018. Roughly translated from her French interview, Gossow says she’ll focus on her new project once the new Arch Enemy album is all wrapped up.

“Yes, I want to make a new extreme metal project, but this will happen after Arch Enemy and work with Alissa will be concluded and the whole world will sail in calmer waters. I suppose this will be in 2018, when we concluded the first series of tours and all the rest. I will do so when the time comes.”

Latest NewsDeath certificate filed for late former MEGADETH drummer Nick Menza
///  Date : 14th January, 2017  ///

One of the more shocking and tragic deaths of 2016 came in May when drummer Nick Menza died while performing onstage at Los Angeles’ Baked Potato club. TMZ reports that the official death certificate concerning the late former Megadeth drummer has been filed and that the cause of death is listed as heart disease and blood pressure. Menza’s mother Rose filed the death certificate in probate court as she was also filing legal documents to be named the administrator of his estate. That would mean that she would collect any royalties that are owed to Menza.

The drummer served multiple stints in the band, first appearing on the band’s ‘Rust in Peace‘ album in 1990. He continued through 2000 before exiting the band, but returned again briefly in 2004. At the time of his passing, he was playing with his band OHM.

Speaking about Menza’s death, Dave Mustaine said in a statement that the phrases “shocked, devastated and saddened” didn’t begin to describe his feelings. He would also add, “We, like all brothers, would disagree at times, but our bond was strong throughout. As a player, Nick had a very powerful jazzy flair, unpredictable and always entertaining, And as great a drummer as he was, the time spent with him as a person, a bandmate, and a friend was even more fun. There were several times we discussed him coming back to the band, but for various reasons it never came together. We’ve been in touch all along, he had come out to our shows recently, and he had remained a great friend, a true professional and a larger than life personality.”

We learned Jon Schnepp, the man who designed the character art for Metalocalypse, will be overseeing and writing the project with Guiu Vilanova drawing the interiors. Glenn Fabry is in charge of the cover art and Eric Powell will do the alternate cover. The comics will be based on the recent Slayer music video trilogy, and the creators promise it will be violent and gory.

Back in November, we got a two image preview of the comic series, and today we see even more. It’s clear that the comic will fill in story gaps from the music videos like “who the hell is the guy with the eye patch?” and “what does he have to do with Nazis?” Unfortunately, we don’t see much of Slayer in these pages, but we already know they will make an appearance. The first issue will be available January 25.

Latest NewsSIX FEET UNDER reveal their first single “Sacrificial Kill” from their forthcoming album ‘Torment’
///  Date : 10th January, 2017  ///

Death metal veterans Six Feet Under will release their twelfth studio album, ‘Torment‘, on February 24th via Metal Blade and revealed the first single, “Sacrificial Kill” today :

There’s plenty of classic Six Feet Under groove to be had on ‘Torment’, but fans will note a much more aggressive approach, and even more modern blast beats throughout. This is a cantankerous Six Feet Under with absolutely nothing to prove. This is Six Feet Under at its most deadly.

Interestingly, Barnes notes that the album will contain a new track that lyrically, was a sequel to “Fucked with a Knife” – the legendary Cannibal Corpse track on the album ‘The Bleeding‘, Barnes’ last with the Corpse.

Latest NewsMORBID ANGEL is in the studio with Erik Rutan, recruits Ex-ABYSMAL DAWN drummer
///  Date : 09th January, 2017  ///

We were promised a new Morbid Angel album in 2017, and it certainly looks like that promise is going to be kept. The band officially consists of guitarist Trey Azagthoth and bassists/vocalist Steve Tucker, whose last performance on a Morbid Angel album was 2003’s ‘Heretic‘.

While Morbid Angel doesn’t currently have a drummer in the band, Azahthoth has taken to Facebook to announce that Scott Fuller (ex-Abysmal Dawn, Annihilated) will be performing drums on the new album! Whether or not he’ll join the band is a whole different story, but still.

Morbid Angel has also announced its currently in the studio with Erik Rutan. Rutan engineered 2011’s ‘Illud Divinum Insanus‘, but was also in Morbid Angel between 1993 and 1996, and again from 1999 to 2002. So he’s familiar with the heavy stuff!

New York death metallers Immolation will release their new album, ‘Atonement‘, on February 24 via Nuclear Blast. The second trailer for ‘Atonement’, in which Ross Dolan discusses how he became the singer and bass player of the band, can be seen below.

Comments Dolan : “We are excited that everyone will finally get a preview of what the new record has to offer. Atonement is a very dark and haunting album, both musically and lyrically, commenting on the darker side of humanity and the world today. Each song on this album is unique in its own way, offering the listener a wide range of dark and sinister passages that I think really hone in on all the elements that make this band what it is.”

Latest NewsBLACK SABBATH’s Tony Iommi reveals lump in throat non-cancerous
///  Date : 06th January, 2017  ///

As every rock fan knows, 2016 was a painful year and in December the hits continued as we received news that Black Sabbath six-stringer Tony Iommi would be undergoing surgery to remove a lump in his throat, uncertain if it was cancerous. The heavy metal pioneer is glad to report that the surgery was not only successful, but that the lump was found to be benign!

“I went in for the throat (operation) – they found a lump at the back of my sinus in the throat and we had to have it checked in case it may have been cancerous,” Iommi told Planet Rock in an interview conducted for a song he recently penned for the Birmingham Cathedral. “But it turns out it wasn’t,” he continued, adding, “which I found out on Christmas Day, which is brilliant! So far (I’m all good). I daren’t say that – I’ll probably fall down the stairs now!”

This is tremendous news for the guitarist who has been touring heavily as Black Sabbath embarked on their farewell tour over the last year. Iommi had previously stated the reason for Sabbath’s retirement was ultimately due to the grueling life on the road in conjunction with ongoing treatment for lymphoma, which he was diagnosed with in 2012.

Black Sabbath will perform their final two shows ever in early February in their hometown of Birmingham, England, where they boldly began nearly 50 years ago, ultimately changing the face of music forever.

Latest NewsIs there a classic-era FEAR FACTORY lineup reunion brewing?
///  Date : 05th January, 2017  ///

Outside the eternal Dino Cazares on guitar and Burton C. Bell on vocals, Fear Factory has gone through numerous changes. From 1993 to 2009, Christian Olde Wolbers held down the guitar or bass spot, and from 1990 to 2009, drummer Raymond Herrera stuck with the group.

Now in an interview with The Ex Man Podcast, Olde Wolbers suggests that maybe he and Herrera could possibly re-join the group.

“I still feel like there might be a small chance, even though we have been… There’s been some communication but me and Raymond don’t really hold the cards, so they need to come to us and be like ‘alright let’s make this happen, let’s fix all this.’”

Olde Wolbers also posted to his Instagram a picture of the Fear Factory site with the caption “Under Construction,” though the actual Fear Factory site doesn’t reflect this.

Latest NewsENSLAVED says a new album is coming this year
///  Date : 04th January, 2017  ///

Enslaved‘s 2016 was mostly a celebration of its 25th anniversary as a band, though it did come with some bittersweet news – the retirement of clean vocalist and keyboardist Herbrand Larsen. Larsen was a part of the band from 2004 to 2016, and has not been replaced (to the best of our knowledge).

So now with 2017 here and ready to do whatever the hell it’s going to do, Enslaved has returned with more good news! A new album! Right at the tail end of a statement from the band thanking everyone for a good year, Enslaved says news of a new album is coming very soon. So yeah, 2017 is looking solid so far.

Latest NewsDAVE MUSTAINE on Rock and Roll Hall of Fame : Metallica ‘Didn’t Want Me There’
///  Date : 03rd January, 2017  ///

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine tweeted yesterday (Jan. 2) that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is “opposed” to him being inducted, but then clarified that it was Metallica who “didn’t want me there”.

When Metallica were inducted into the Hall back in 2009, Mustaine was not included to receive the honor. Though James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, Cliff Burton, Jason Newsted and Robert Trujillo were all invited to receive entrance into the Hall, Mustaine remained the only prominent former Metallica member left out, despite his massive influence on the band’s early sound and writing credits on ‘Kill ‘Em All‘ and ‘Ride the Lightning‘.

While it remains to be seen if the metal icon will get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Megadeth and Mustaine will be eligible for years to come. As for Dave’s other “bucket list” item of winning a Grammy, he may realize that dream in 2017 as Megadeth’s ‘Dystopia‘ has been nominated for this year’s Best Metal Performance Award.

Latest NewsWolf Hoffmann says next ACCEPT album will be ‘Stronger’ and ‘Heavier Than Ever’
///  Date : 01st January, 2017  ///

Guitarist Wolf Hoffmann of German/American metallers Accept spoke to Metaleater‘s Tony Antunovich about the band’s upcoming follow-up to 2014’s ‘Blind Rage’ album, which will be released this summer via Nuclear Blast. Regarding the progress of the recording sessions for the new disc, Wolf said : “We are about half finished with a lot of the tracks. [Producer] Andy Sneap was over here a few weeks ago and we went through all the material and recorded some drum tracks, recorded some guitar stuff, some vocal stuff. So it’s a little early, but I can guarantee it’s gonna sound like Accept.”

Wolf also confirmed that Accept’s upcoming effort will be musically very similar to the band’s last three releases with singer Mark Tornillo : 2010’s ‘Blood Of The Nations‘, 2012’s ‘Stalingrad‘ and 2014’s ‘Blind Rage‘. “Oh, yeah”, he said. “It’s not supposed to sound any different; it’s just supposed to be stronger than ever, heavier than ever and better songs than ever. That’s what we’re aiming for. And I think it’s gonna be killer. [Drummer] Christopher Williams has done some amazing drum tracks already, so I think it’s gonna be pretty awesome.”

Accept will release a new live set titled “Restless And Live” on January 13 via Nuclear Blast. This package will include the entire show Accept played at 2015’s Bang Your Head!!! festival in Balingen, Germany on Blu-ray/DVD plus two CDs.

Latest NewsCHILDREN OF BODOM to enter studio in 2017, Drummer details ‘Severe Back Pain’ issues
///  Date : 31st December, 2016  ///

Children of Bodom spent a great deal of 2016 on the road in support of their ninth studio effort, 2015’s ‘I Worship Chaos‘. With the 20th anniversary of their ‘Something Wild‘ debut coming in 2017, the band will be reflecting on the past while maintaining focus on the future with a new album.

Drummer Jaska Raatikainen wrapped up his thoughts on the year with Bodom in an extensive Facebook post, expressing his gratitude for being in such a successful band for two decades. His thoughts were conflicted, however, as he cited his struggles with back pain.

“Even though so many great things happened to me this year it was still overshadowed by severe back pain that made me really frustrated and anxious”, the skinsman began. “I needed pain killers to be able to perform a show and still wasn’t able to enjoy it. Sometimes it was just surviving through the set. The days I didn’t have pain and I could play normally were rare. Those shows I played like it could be my last show and just couldn’t help thinking that this great thing what I was doing on stage could end any day”.

Latest NewsSLIPKNOT’s Jim Root is “90 Percent” better after Spinal Disk Replacement Surgery
///  Date : 29th December, 2016  ///

Slipknot guitarist Jim Root underwent spinal disk replacement surgery back in October, and he’s happy to report that he’s doing pretty well! Root says he tried to avoid the surgery as long as possible, but an MRI revealed that his back problems and arm numbness pretty much warranted surgery immediately.

His story about the explanation of the surgery is actually pretty funny, considering it seems like Root’s main concern was all about headbanging! Root says the surgery is similar to ones undergone by frontman Corey Taylor and Slayer‘s Kerry King.

Latest NewsDORO PESCH pays tribute to LEMMY with ‘It Still Hurts’ video

It still hurts! R.I.P., my dear friend — we love you.”

Latest NewsMEGADETH bassist David Ellefson comments on latest Grammy nomination
///  Date : 27th December, 2016  ///

Thrash metal pioneers Megadeth have been nominated for a 2017 Grammy Award for “Best Metal Performance” for the title track of their latest album, ‘Dystopia‘. This marks the band’s 12th Grammy nomination in this category (including nominations in the discontinued “Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance” category). The band is hoping to win its first Grammy at the 59th annual event, which will be held on February 12, 2017 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and broadcast on CBS at 8 p.m. ET.

Asked by FeMetal TV if he thinks the Recording Academy members understand the heavy metal genre, Megadeth bassist David Ellefson said : “No, not really. The Grammys is a very broad entity, and they honor all kinds of different music. And certainly they’re credible, and it’s incredible to be nominated again and invited back. But do they fundamentally just understand every single genre? How could you?”

He continued : “Really, it’s the voters. I stayed on as a voting member for a few years after we started getting nominations back in the ’90s, and then I just kind of discontinued it. But it’s recognition by your industry and by your peers for the work that you’ve done. And I assume it’s nice to win [laughs] — hopefully we’ll know one day.”

George Michael first made a name for himself in the group Wham! with hits like “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go”, “Everything She Wants” and “Careless Whisper(also considered a solo single) and then went on to solo success with such hits as “Faith”, “Father Figure”, “I Want Your Sex” and “Freedom ’90”. Latest NewsDave Grohl + Dave Navarro among guests on NINE INCH NAILS new EP
///  Date : 25th December, 2016  ///

Trent Reznor had been dropping hints that there would be new Nine Inch Nails material this year. He came though, announcing in mid-December that a new EP, ‘Not the Actual Events‘, would be arriving just in time for the holidays on Dec. 23. The five-track release was full of surprises, mostly the music being a more aggressive direction than their previous album, ‘Hesitation Marks‘, as well as some notable guest musicians.

Reznor worked with longtime collaborator Atticus Ross on this release, who is now the only other official member of Nine Inch Nails besides Reznor. Joining the duo was Foo Fighters mainman Dave Grohl, who played drums on the song “The Idea of You” while Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro was featured on “Burning Bright (Field on Fire)”. Reznor’s wife, Mariqueen Maandig (How to Destroy Angels singer), also assisted the group, contributing to “She’s Gone Away”.

Speaking about the release, Reznor stated on the band’s website, “It’s an unfriendly, fairly impenetrable record that we needed to make. It’s an EP because that ended up being the proper length to tell that story.”

Latest NewsSEPULTURA release cybernetic “Phantom Self” music video
///  Date : 24th December, 2016  ///

Brazilian metal heavyweights Sepultura are set to drop ‘Machine Messiah‘ early next year. With the pummeling “I Am the Enemy” giving fans the first indication of what’s to come on their 14th studio album, they’ve served up a bit of a new sound on “Phantom Self”, complete with a cybernetic music video as seen below.

The track opens up with familiar tribal percussion, but things take a different turn as classical instrumentation gradually works its way into “Phantom Self” amidst a catchy guitar lead. It’s back to classic Sepultura when the down-tuned rhythms punch through the song with a start-and-stop pull as the classical moments weave in and out. On the whole, it’s a bold new step for the Brazilians who have a clear lyrical focus on this song.

Latest NewsSIX FEET UNDER frontman : ‘The new music we have recorded is F**king Insane’
///  Date : 22nd December, 2016  ///

Death metal veterans Six Feet Under recently completed work on the follow-up to their ‘Crypt Of The Devil‘ album for a 2017 release. Vocalist Chris Barnes stated about the upcoming disc : “Our new album does not sound like any of our previous albums. Just as ‘Haunted’ didn’t sound like ‘Tomb Of The Mutilated’ [from Barnes’s previous band CANNIBAL CORPSE], just like ‘Maximum Violence’ didn’t sound like ‘Warpath’, just like ‘Undead’ didn’t sound like ’13’. If you are expecting it to sound like one of our other albums, you will be disappointed. Saying that, the new music we have recorded is fucking insane.”

Six Feet Under’s new album was mixed by Chris “Zeuss” Harris and was previously described by Barnes as “the most brutally intense, groove-laden masterpiece we’ve ever put together!

Six Feet Under just completed the “X-Mas in Hell Tour 2016” in Germany where the band celebrated the 21st anniversary of its debut album, ‘Haunted‘, by performing the LP in its entirety. The current Six Feet Under touring lineup features Barnes alongside guitarist Ray Suhy, bassist Jeff Hughell and drummer Marco Pitruzzella.

Latest NewsENSLAVED part ways with keyboardist Herbrand Larsen
///  Date : 18th December, 2016  ///

Enslaved had quite the weekend celebrating their 25th anniversary as a band : their New York by Norse event, which saw a reception hosted by the Norwegian Consulate and a special Enslaved show at the Gramercy Theatre, was a smashing success according to all those who attended. The band seemed to have a stellar time, too.

Unfortunately it was bittersweet for the band members and their keyboardist Herbrand Larsen, who yesterday announced he’d be parting ways with the group after 13 years of service. More than just a keyboard player who “filled in the cracks,” so to speak, Larsen’s parts have become an integral part of Enslaved’s music over the past decade plus. Even more integral : Larsen handled clean vocals, which have become an increasingly important part of the band’s sound during his tenture. The band announced the news in a Facebook post.

Latest NewsMEGADETH’s Dave Mustaine wants ‘even shot’ at Big 4 shows
///  Date : 16th December, 2016  ///

Dave Mustaine outlines hopes for any future Big 4 thrash shows – no support bands, equal time on stage. The Megadeth mainman has recently been talking up the chance of returning to stages alongside Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax – and this week Metallica’s Robert Trujillo voiced his own support for the idea.

But unlike the historic performances in 2010 and 2011, Mustaine wants each of the leading acts to be given what he calls an “even shot” in front of fans.

He tells Eddie Trunk on SiriusXM (via Blabbermouth) : “If the conditions were right I think it would be great – when it’s just the four of us. If you do the Big 4 and you’ve got four or five little opening bands, that takes away from the phenomenon. We should all have relatively similar set times, we should all have relatively similar staging – really allow the four of us to be presented as equals and see where the chips lie.”

Latest NewsMETALLICA’s Rob Trujillo talks future Big Four tour
///  Date : 15th December, 2016  ///

Rob Trujillo says he’d like Metallica to hit the road with Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer again after they complete their Hardwired touring commitments. The four thrash metal acts shared the bill for seven shows in the Sonisphere festival series in 2010. Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine – a former member of Metallica – recently said he wants all of them to hit the road together again.

Responding to Mustaine, bassist Trujillo says he’s also keen to team up for another Big Four tour in future – but Metallica must focus on promoting their new album, ‘Hardwired… To Self Destruct’ first.

He tells Loudwire : “The Big Four tour was really great. We had a great time – it was special and fun and I love Dave. Dave is amazing. Right now, the main focus is we’ve got this new album and we’re going to go out and we’re going to tour this and get into these new songs and take this journey right now.” He adds : “Maybe after we get this sort of out of our system, we can dive into Big Four mode and try and do that. I can see us doing it again. It was definitely a lot of fun. It makes me feel good that Dave wants to take that journey again.”

Latest NewsRAMMSTEIN announce only East Coast show of 2017, more US dates planned?
///  Date : 14th December, 2016  ///

Rammstein aren’t much for touring the States. We were able to see them on their return to the States at Madison Square Garden a few years ago and it was one of the most awesome shows. But it was indoors, so there wasn’t much of a fireworks display. Today, Rammstein announced a new East Coast gig for 2017 and… it will be outdoors!

The band will perform at Jones Beach, in Wantagh, NY on June 25th, 2017. Tickets will go on sale this Saturday at noon eastern time. As of right now, this is the only confirmed US date from Rammstein but the band expects to announce a limited amount of other dates soon. After all, the band is working on new material and might have an album ready by next summer. The band began performing a new song, “Ram4“, a tribute to their past material at live shows this year.

Latest NewsCould the next MEGADETH album have Blast Beats?
///  Date : 13th December, 2016  ///

Megadeth‘s lineup was an interesting one to follow once guitarist Chris Broderick and drummer Shawn Drover quit. Angra’s guitarist Kiko Loureiro jumped in on guitar, and Lamb Of God’s Chris Adler got in on the studio sessions for ‘Dystopia‘. After Adler couldn’t do it live anymore, Megadeth was briefly joined live by drummer Tony Laureano (ex-Nile, ex-1349, etc.), and finally was permanently joined by not ex-Soilwork drummer Dirk Verbeuren.

According to Dave Mustaine in an interview with Metal Hammer, Verbeuren’s and Loureiro’s playing may very well influence the next Megadeth album.

“When we get into the rehearsal room, warming up for the shows, and we hear Dirk playing some blastbeats, I’m questioning what Megadeth is going to sound like when we make the next record and we have those skull-numbing beats going on, it’s gonna push my playing to otherworldly limits. I’m excited because I can do the fast metal stuff, but having the chops and musical depth that Kiko has and with Ellefson holding down the fort, I’m really looking forward to the next record. I started thinking about it the day we left the studio after making ‘Dystopia’. That’s just how I’m wired.”
